From D750 to Z8: What Actually Changed

Moving from a D750 to a Z8 is not a small upgrade.

It changes the experience of shooting.

Autofocus Is One of the Biggest Differences

Modern autofocus systems can track subjects in ways that older DSLRs simply could not.

For wildlife, this changes how much attention I can spend watching the subject instead of constantly fighting the camera.

Mirrorless Changes the Workflow

Electronic viewfinder information, silent shooting options, live exposure preview and the overall behavior of the camera change how you work.

You get more feedback before pressing the shutter.

That can make exposure decisions much faster.

But the D750 Was Not Suddenly Bad

The D750 can still produce excellent photographs.

The difference is not that one camera creates art and the other creates garbage.

The difference is how much friction exists between seeing the photograph and recording it.

What Actually Matters

A camera upgrade is most valuable when it removes a limitation you actually encounter.

For me, the move from D750 to Z8 was less about owning a newer camera and more about removing friction from the process.
