Nikon Z8 in the Real World: What I Actually Use

The Nikon Z8 is a serious camera.

That does not mean I use every feature it has.

The Features I Actually Care About

Autofocus matters.

Electronic viewfinder behavior matters.

Dynamic range matters.

The resolution matters when I need to crop.

The overall responsiveness matters because wildlife does not wait for menus.

A camera should disappear while you are using it.

Resolution Is Useful

The Z8 gives me a lot of pixels to work with.

That is particularly useful for wildlife and situations where I cannot physically get closer.

Cropping is not a replacement for composition, but having room to crop can save a photograph.

The Camera Is Still Not the Photograph

It is easy to spend too much time discussing specifications.

At some point, the camera needs to leave the desk.

The Z8 is useful because it gets out of my way.

That is probably the most important feature.

What Actually Matters

I do not need to use every feature because Nikon put it in the menu.

I need the features that make the photographs I actually take easier to make.
