🌵 Tequila Cocktail
Margarita
Tequila, lime, orange liqueur. Salt rim optional but recommended. The most ordered cocktail in America is also one of the most frequently ruined by sour mix. Made properly, it barely resembles what most bars serve.
🧪 Ingredients
- 50ml blanco tequila
- 25ml fresh lime juice
- 20ml orange liqueur (Cointreau)
- 1 lime wheel, to garnish
📋 Method
- Rim a rocks glass with salt, if using, by running a lime wedge around the edge and dipping in salt.
- Add tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur to a shaker with ice.
- Shake hard for 12-15 seconds.
- Strain over fresh ice into the prepared glass and garnish with a lime wheel.
Bartender's Notes
Blanco tequila is correct here, not reposado or añejo, which fight the citrus with barrel notes. Cointreau is worth the extra cost over cheaper triple sec; it's noticeably cleaner and less sweet.
